2 weeks from today
It begins two weeks from TODAY!
Tuesday, July 22, is the day that we begin accepting applications for the fall 40 Days for Life campaign.
And early indications lead us to believe that this could be the largest 40 Days for Life campaign ever conducted. Hundreds of cities across America and around the globe have already expressed interest in participating — including many first-time locations.
The fall 2009 campaign will be held from SEPTEMBER 23 THROUGH NOVEMBER 1.
Based on the questions coming in — as well as the feedback from the 240 cities that have previously conducted 40 Days for Life campaigns — we’ve decided to give you a lot of information, tools, and training BEFORE applications begin to help you:
- Discover what 40 Days for Life is, and the measurable results it has generated
- Decide if 40 Days for Life is right for you and your community
- Discern your personal role in this fall’s 40 Days for Life campaign
- Get others excited and involved
- Plan for community-wide prayer and fasting
- Prepare for a successful prayer vigil at a Planned Parenthood or other abortion center
- Gear up for highly effective community outreach efforts
- Assess what a successful local 40 Days for Life might cost — in terms of time and money
- Expand the effectiveness of pro-life efforts in your town, saving many more lives!
To help you prepare effectively, over these next few weeks we’ll be sending you a number of short, focused pre-application training materials including:
- Videos
- Audio case studies
- Downloadable training guides
- Planning checklists
- Materials to help you get others involved
By the time applications begin, you will have already had time to test the waters and ensure that 40 Days for Life is a good fit for your community BEFORE making any commitment.
And you will have the tools and training you need to prepare for an even more successful campaign.
It’s going to be an exciting journey over these next two weeks, and I can’t wait to get started!
Yours for Life,
David Bereit
National Director
40 Days for Life
P.S.- We want to make sure we answer as many of your questions as possible prior to beginning registrations. If you have ANY question at all about this fall’s 40 Days for Life, please post it as a reply at the bottom of this post.

Will there be better involvement in the Phoenix area this time around? Many days I prayed alone on my weekly shift at Planned Parenthood.

Is Heritage House the only supplier of campaign materials for the Fall ‘09 Campaign?
Also, will all signage be available in Spanish?

Dear David,
We have now gathered $90. of the $197. cost of our local website. Later today I will mail it to you with our application and my pledge. We also have probably another $90. in pledges, and keep on going.
God has Blessed us with a Web professional do work on our website. A welcome answer to my prayer. I felt we really needed one. John Lynch has the agreement of a ProLifer in Long Island who will help us. Compared to the other professional websites, I welcome this improvement for sure.
God Bless you all in our work.

David,
We’re looking forward to the best campaign yet! On Saturday, I made a request at the 1st Saturday Rosary prayed outside the abortion site, and before the group gathered had dispersed, I had one donor provide $100 towards our registration! I also had a woman step up and volunteer to help coordinate some of the churches. I’ll hook her up with a wonderful, but very busy volunteer who knows the ropes and between the two of them, we should be able to get this effort covered.
Later in the day, while I was at a local “TEA Party” I met a man who preaches to other men, and it looks like he’s willing to help us fill our night time ours, so we may be able to go 24/7 this time around! YEAH!
Oh, and next month, we’re all invited to attend a baby shower for a baby saved during the last week of our Spring campaign.
And … we’re finally, finally making in roads at the UNR campus and there are several pro-life events planned there this Fall!
It’s taken a while to break through the hardened hearts of this town, but we are beginning to make real progress!
Thanks for all that you and the rest of the team have been doing to support us in this effort. 40 Days for Life is an awesome model!
Lives have been saved, women have been spared the grief of killing their own child and the community is waking up, slowly but surely.

I would like to get the local Catholic School and it’s accompanying CCD program involved. What do I need to do?

Any examples of volunteers in some of the supervisory/coordinator roles working a regular job simultaneously? I work as a support worker in a group home and my contract hours rotate every 4 weeks through 3 different shifts and alternating weekends.

Are there places that have Forty Days For Life that are not in close proximity to a place that provides abortions and if there is, do they use a church to have 24/7 vigil.
We have had several campaigns in cities with no abortion center. Some use a town square or courthouse lawn. One used an area of a parking lot offered by a local Christian businessman. The idea is to hold the vigil outside, where people will pass by, find out what’s going on, and learn what they can do to help.

Does Forty Days For Life have a higher turn-out ratio in smaller cities than larger ones? Will you be going to any cities near Allentown, PA this Fall?
The turnout depends on the ability of the local team to network and invite participation, not the size of the community.
The list of participating communities will be published in early August. Please check this web site at that time for areas where you can participate.
Thanks and God bless!

With the name, 40 Days for Life I wondered if there is any connection to the Rick Warren, 40 Days of… movement? Thank you for your info!
There is no connection with 40 Days of Purpose.

Is there a 40 days for life “group” in the Grapevine TX area? I won’t be able to lead a group but I do want to help out.
My 17 yr old daugther Kathleen was (is) staunchly Pro-life she died suddenly on Jan. 24th of this year. She has done several Prolife art pieces and made no bones about speaking up for the un-born…I want to follow her lead & continue her work.
God Bless,
Thanks for your message, Jay — and God bless you! We will likely have 40 Days for Life campaigns in Dallas and Fort Worth. The full list will be posted in early August.

Nervous, but my heart is beating fast… Participated in Syracuse, NY with 40 Days for Life.
Feel called to do one in Ithaca, NY but not sure this fall or in the spring– haven’t talk to anyone in particular for community involvement yet, ex., praying about it, etc. I’m aware that the Lord would/will open doors and is waiting for a response, like me.

I am too young and busy to plan a 40 days for life in my area, but would love to be involved. How can we sign up for that and where? Is there any effort taking place this fall in the Tacoma area? And can you email the answer to this question to kevinmcdnnll@gmail.com ? (That is because I probably won’t be checking the answer to this blog)
Thanks,
Kevin McDonnell
We hope to have the fall campaign locations posted by the end of next week. Check the web site at http://40daysforlife.com/location.cfm for the complete list.

Our church is not currently registered to host the 40 Days for Life event. Is there a general flier that we can use to inform our parishioners about what the event is all about, so that they can plan to participate along with another church that is registered?
Thank you for your question and your desire to get involved with 40 Days for Life! Churches do not register; communities do. Please visit the locations page at http://40daysforlife.com/location.cfm and check for a community near you that is hosting 40 Days for Life this fall. You may then click on the city’s name for local information and a person you may contact to find out more about that city’s efforts. Anyone is welcome to participate!
