DAY 4: Taking love where there is no love

February 24th, 2012 by admin

Today, I’m speaking at a 40 Days for Life event in College Park, Maryland — but I wanted to share some exciting news about what’s happening 10,000 miles away.

Earlier this week, we sent you the video David Bereit and I recorded in London. Today, we have a video produced by a local Catholic group from Australia. We’ve never been to Australia, but this short video shows how God is using 40 Days for Life Down Under. Enjoy the video!

The campaign in Sydney kicked off with a procession to the vigil site — the Pre-Term Foundation, the oldest abortion facility in Sydney. An estimated 400 people took part, including Bishop Terry Brady of the Catholic archdiocese.

“As in previous years, the procession saw its fair share of hecklers,” reports one of the local team leaders. “One lady began screaming and writing on the ground with chalk in front of the facility, until a sudden downpour of rain stopped her mid-sentence.”

“This Lent, we are going to Calvary, to take love where there is no love, where innocence is crucified,” said local coordinator Paul Hanrahan.

CARSON CITY, NEVADA

40 Days for Life in Nevada’s capital city started with a well-attended candlelight vigil. The volunteers will be praying outside a new Planned Parenthood facility for these 40 days.

The location is not far from Nevada’s legislature, supreme court and governor’s mansion — “just a short walk away,” said one of the Carson City leaders.

This spring, Birmingham is holding its EIGHTH 40 Days for Life campaign!

More than 100 people took part in the candlelight vigil in front of the Planned Parenthood facility, launching 40 days of prayer and fasting. “We had four pastors lead us in prayer. We sang in praise and heard encouraging words from our local pregnancy resource center director,” said Ed in Birmingham.

“Over these last four years of 40 Days for Life, we have grown our pro-life participation greatly and become more unified in all of our local projects as we stand for life,” he said. “We left that evening ready to start. Thanks be to God!”

Here’s the link to today’s devotional.

  1. Dave Mattozzi Says:

Let us all pray for an end to abortion.

  2. Sharon Says:

What a powerful video. Did you notice what was written on the side of the medical waste truck? “Sweeney Todd.” That sends chills up my spine. Like Sweeney Todd, who lures unsuspecting people into his barber shop for a haircut and then kills them to be cooked into pie, the abortion industry lures unsuspecting women into their clinics, telling them they’re only going to remove a blob of unwanted cells. Their children are thrown into a truck to be hauled away with the trash. People sing the praises of these doctors who are helping women solve all their problems, while the doctors rake in the blood money. Pray for the doctors to be converted, and for the women to choose life.

  3. Joseph J Wagner Says:

    forty days of life

Keep up the good work, glad we are not overlooking Australia

  4. Mrs. LeBlanc Says:

Let everyone pray for the end of “legalized abortion” during this Lenten season. God will be proud of you. A Mother and a Grandmother and Proud of it!

  5. Maryanne Heath Says:

Abortion is the Big Lie of our times. Women are buying into the deception that abortion gives them power, when, in reality, they have already relinquished their power to people who only seek to exploit them. In many situations, the father of their unborn child has exploited them and next they are exploited by the abortioninsts who “help” them for large profits. In the end, they are victims, not powerful, left hurting one way or the other.

  6. Edward Kinkead Says:

I will continue to pray my rosary for an end to the tragedy abortion, and I will do my best to make 40 days for life known to people in my church, my one friend who is a Protestant, and my new pastor at my church.

  7. Walter Whidden Says:

watching this movie, i realize why i cry all the time. i have a grandson which has autism, that is now having seize rs and i think of how much i love this child. i thought it was a punishment for not fighting for a child years ago. no its not , i’m crying for not fighting as hard for children that have no chance to fight. its not guilt , i’m crying because i need , to fight harder for what is not yet happened, for all those that can be loved for whatever time we have with them. there is no greater love then to love a child holding on to you and loving you back.

  9. Cami Murphy Says:

  17. Rachel Rogers Says:

Just had a quick look at the blog from the Good Counsel Network. If you want hope and joy during this campaign, there it is. I already support the charity but it still feels as though it needs all the help it can get, and that not enough people know about it. This and the charity life are two of the many concrete ways in which we can offer women an alternative to abortion.

  18. R.J. Says:

“This lent, forget about giving up chocolate,
Join your local 40 days for life chapter instead!”

    Lovin’ it!

    About the Sweeny Todd comment.
I thought it was also a strange coincidence, that George Tiller’s last name reminded me of the grim reaper of death-aka-a tiller.

I am so excited to be involved with prolife work.
It is hard, but God gives the graces needed to persevere in His peace.
    Thank God, for Jesus Christ!

  19. Carol Marie Says:

  20. Carol Marie Says:

What a touching video from Australia! It is amazing the difference in seeing and only hearing. Thank you to all those 400 people for praying to save lives. I will add Sydney, Australia to my list of pray-ers to mention each day as well as those in London, Canada and the United States. I pray each day for our group in Houston, Texas. God bless each of you.

  23. Jen Dunnett Says:

I am part of the Core Team for 40 Days for Life Stevens Point, WI. Our first 3 days have been excellent. People from our area are really stepping up to fill the hours. Monday we have all our shifts filled!! This is great for our first campaign. Please pray we can keep up the momentum!!
    Jen

  24. Thomas Haj Says:

Such beautiful pictures- the faith of the people, so deep.
This shows me the simple reason why Christianity and abortion will always be diametrically opposed to each other:
Christians believe that Christ died on the cross for our sins
Abortion believes that the baby dies in the womb for the parent’s sins

  25. Bea Kelly Says:

the Planned Parent facility in Storm Lake Iowa will be closing on March 1st thru the efforts of Sue Thayer who worked there many years. She is now a PRO LIFE ACTIVIST.
