DAY 1: Imagine the possibilities

September 25th, 2012 by admin

As we begin this 40-day journey of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil, and community outreach, imagine what God can do through YOU … in YOUR city.

In a NEW kickoff video, David Bereit — our national director — shares a touching (and rarely told) story that shows the powerful impact one person can make.

In the video, you’ll learn about one person — who was personally affected by abortion — who helped to launch the entire 40 Days for Life worldwide movement … and you’ll hear David share an inspiring account of the baby he met this weekend whose life was spared through one person participating in 40 Days for Life.

Make time to watch this video — you’ll be glad you did!

If we are willing to pray … and ACT … God can work through us. I’m getting ready to visit the 40 Days for Life in Minnesota’s Twin Cities, and the volunteers here fully understand that.

Their campaign is now focusing on a second abortion center — because following the campaign a year ago, the FIRST abortion location where they held their 40-day prayer vigils CLOSED!

There had been SEVEN 40 Days for Life campaigns outside a hospital that did abortions. But hospital managers closed the abortion unit because business had declined 40 percent during that time and abortion was no longer economically viable (or in plain English, they were losing money).

The quick point to take away from this is that God answered prayers in the Twin Cities — and He is ready to answer prayers in YOUR city!

The Reno-Tahoe area was among the 89 cities that took part in the first 40 Days for Life campaign five years ago (yes, it’s been FIVE YEARS!). Faithful volunteers are back again for this campaign. Over the years, they’ve seen changes at the abortion center.

This is one of the most challenging locations for a 40 Days for Life vigil. The abortionist is a rather belligerent individual who taunts vigil participants with signs on the side of the building.

He also turns a sprinkler system on the prayer volunteers and plays vulgar music through a powerful sound system.

But even here, the quiet voice of prayer is having an effect.

People pray outside that abortion center year-round now. In addition to praying at the sidewalk, they observe the comings and goings at the building. Operating hours have decreased. Instead of opening early in the day, the doors aren’t opened til mid-morning now. They also appear to be open fewer days each week.

One day recently, the staff came and went. But there were no customers. NO ONE had an abortion that day.

Said one of the volunteers, “all we can do is re-double our prayer in the hopes that this means lives and souls are being spared the pain of abortion.”

God is moving in a powerful way. Keep praying!

I participated last year in the 40 Days for Life last year. I feel so excited and priveleged to be participating again with the goal that in the name of Christ our Lord that 1 day abortion is completely ended!

  5. Leisa Says:

Thank you for this inspirational video! I am starting my first day at our city’s abortion clinic and will be there on a day that abortions will be performed. Please pray for me to not be angry at the staff, workers, and women. Give me strength to stand with courage, conviction, and empathy. Thank you :)

  6. katrina Says:

Seventeen years ago I made the choice to call to schedule my abortion because even though I was a christian I couldn’t take the pressure of the situation I was in or my boyfriend wanting me to do it. The planned parenthood just scheduled it and didn’t even offer me counseling or anything about it just come in and it will be taken care of. Seventeen years ago God interceded and I changed my mind and made plans to give my child up for adoption. September 29.1995 Baby Zachary was born and 4 days later went to live out of state with his adoptive family.
I pray 40 days of life will save other Zacharies this very year!
Father God I praise you for your miracle of life!!!!

  7. Anna Says:

Thank you David for the great message. I have been involved with 40 Days for Life since the first national campaign, Five years ago. WOW! God has been busy in my life for the last five years. I am post abortive and I was literally on the brink of giving up on life altogether when I found your website. Pray and fasting not only saves babies but it save women also. Through your ministry I was led to other abortion healing ministries where God performed a great healing in my life. I now know personally that God is a God of the impossible. I will be joining you every day in pray and fasting. I am believing that we will bring an end to legal abortion in our life time.

God bless you and your family for all that you do to bring this message to the public.

  8. Beth Craven Connor Says:

Dear Friends, I have been praying with you for a couple of years now. This year I took what is for me a major step forward. With our pastor’s permission i spoke briefly at the end of all four masses in our parish, weekend before last. This past weekend the bulletin listed your website and included a prayer by Priests for Life (for those without the internet. When I spoke, I asked parishioners to join me in a campaign to end the leading cause of death in our nation and in the world today. I said that the CDC lists heart disease as the #1 cause of death in the USA; the WHO lists heart disease as the #1 killer in the world. But neither organization acknowledges the real #1 cause of death, another kind of disease of the heart–abortion. I said that in 2008 (the latest across the board figures available) almost 600,000 people died of heart disease in the US but more than twice that number 1.2million lives were lost through abortion. In that same year 7.25 million lost their lives to heart disease in the world, but 43 million lives were lost through abortion. Then I invited them to join 40 Days for Life, to google you all and check out your website, to sign up for the daily e-mails, to pray the daily devotional, to call the coordinator of the campaign in Allentown, PA and sign up to give witness. I don’t know how many will respond but several people said to me after mass that they had never heard those numbers before and that hearing them made their awareness of the crisis more real. Thank you for your witness that gave me the courage to stand up publicly and speak for the lives devastated by Abortion.

  9. Ruth Says:

Thank you, David for leading in hope and witness the 40 Days for Life campaign. It is so stirring to hear your passion and the passion of others, in seeing abortion end in America.

  10. Rosemary malone Says:

David, Please keep Wichita, Ks. In your prayers. Sad to say this notice was on the front page of our local paper today: “The building that housed the practice of murdered abortion provider George Tiller has been sold to a foundation planning to re-establish abortion services in Wichita. The foundation is run by Julie Burkhart, an abortion-rights activist and formerTiller employee. Her group has been working to provide abortions and fill the void left when Tiller was shot to death by an anti-abortion activist in 2009.”. We have active RightToLife groups here, bUt need prayers to keep WIchIta free from this abomination. Thank you.

  11. Peggy Curry Says:

Thank you, David, and all those who have participated in this most
important work to end abortion. Will join you in praying that God will
hear our prayers and that abortions end and babies live.

    May God bless you!

  12. Walter Whidden Says:

What a wonderful inspirational talk. Thank you, David. My prayers are with everyone in 40 Days for Life. May this campaign be the most successful ever.

  13. Sara Says:

In Response to Leisa, Don’t be afraid to pray for the abortion workers a year and half ago I was involved in a 40 days campaign. I had recently miscarried my child and I was motivated to pray even more to end abortion, to save babies I COULD save. So I prayed and prayed, one day I was praying when the facility was open for 2 1/2 hours with my then 18 month old daughter in particular for the workers and manager of that planned parenthood. I saw her lock the door as the facility closed for the day and then prayer relief showed up so we left. Little did I know the manager would come out five minutes later and speak with the leader of our 40 days. That EX Planned Parenthood workers name is Ramona Trevino so don’t be afraid to love the workers and pray for them.

  14. Betsy P. Says:

“The Rest of the Story” is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing it. And thank you for all that you and your family do to encourage others to join you in 40 DFL.
I, too, am a woman who was pregnant out of wedlock, and encouraged to have an abortion. In 1968, before abortions were even legal, a doctor was ready to send me to an abortionist. I am so grateful that the Lord enabled me to guard that baby’s life. He has blessed me with a beautiful daughter, son-in-law, and 4 grandsons – gifts from God.
I am standing in prayer and fasting with you all, and so grateful to be able to make a difference in this battle for unborn lives. For God and for the Kingdom…

  15. Cindy in Fort Wayne Says:

You are so inspiring, David! I don’t remember hearing the story of David Arabee before. It had me in tears. I wish God’s blessing on all the 40 Days for Life locations and on this campaign’s volunteers.

  16. Jackie Whittle Says:

  17. Victoria Biggie Says:

I am grateful for this opportunity to effect change in my area against this terrible crime. I do believe prayer changes things. I will be agreeing with the TRINITY for “thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven for every unborn child and their parents”. I believe HE only needs our willingness to agree and connect with HIM and HIS purpose and to release it on the earth and it shall be done as He desires.

  18. Rosie Says:

I just want to share how much I love and appreciate every one of the wonderful pro-life praying people and sidewalk counselors that I have met. My life is so much richer for having joined them on the sidewalks once a week. And only pray that they remember that just being on the sidewalk with a few caring signs means a lot to the communities, and affects decisions about abortions. Also, I’m reminded that October 20 is the day of the Stand Up For Freedom rallies across the nation… where our peaceful united presence is also needed… God will help us and heal us, no matter what we’ve experienced….. Love, Rosie

  19. Betty Joyce Dietzel Says:

Thank you for reminding us how we MUST get on our needs and pray, pray, pray for forgiveness in keeping silent for so long. We all must all go to our LORD in the quiet of our hearts and minds and ask HIM for direction. We must read HIS word, turn off all the media, and listen to HIS voice. Turn off all the noise and turn on the quiet voice of GOD. Let us all take our world back, encourage a Christian love for all people.

Please vote this year for the candidate who believes in life!

All in HIS most Glorious Name we say AMEN!!

  20. Lou Says:

Thank you to everyone who is participating in the 40 days for Life. David’s speech, and travels are so inspiring. My husband and I, both for different reasons, were supposed to be aborted. I thank God and Father Solanus Casey, along with our patents’ deep faith, that we have life.
I will be praying for all of the volunteers, as well as for an end to abortion.

  21. Cari in Phoenix Says:

WoW! my son’s birthday is July 16th too, just like little Jordan in the ending story. My dad tried to convince me to end the pregnancy 14 yrs ago. I had never thought about pro-life or choice, but I knew instinctively that I would never even consider ending my child’s life. He’s the best thing to ever happen to me. I am thrilled to be joining in on my first 40 Days!!!!

  22. Cindy Says:

Wow, what an amazing, inspirational video. God bless!

  23. Carol in FL Says:

To Katrina: What a courageous and loving choice you made, giving life to baby Zachary. I pray more people will see what a loving choice adoption really is.

  24. Gayle in SoCali Says:

David, I have heard you speak many times and you are always inspiring. Thank you for sharing David’s story; I got chills and tears. What an amazing thing God is doing through the prayers of one old man and his son. Thank you for sharing your love and your heart and your joy and your strength for the unborn and their mothers, fathers, grandparents and all who would be blessed by their lives. May God continue bless you and your family mightily and you love and serve Him.

  25. Cheryl Hurley Says:

I’m sending this message from Dublin Ireland! We are possibly on the brink of abortion here & pro life campaigners are tirelessly working hard to prevent this from happening! Please pray for us as we pray & fast in support of the incredible work you all do! God bless!

  26. R.J. Says:

Wow, those, uh, sprinklers remind me of the old Selma pictures. True civil rights heroes, thanks guys!

  27. Sr Mary Dolores Moes Says:

I have just watched and heard your inspiring video, David. It is unbelievable how God works through you and each of us he loves so much. Such a privilege to have our first 40 Days for Life Campaign. such a privilege to pray with so many people from so many places. God is praised and is so willing to help each of us as we try to save lives and help the many involved in the abortion industry. Our lives will be changed as well. 40 Days of Prayer, Fasting and Community Outreach will unite us from around the world. Tears came to my eyes more than once in your story and David Arabee willingness to let you tell his. I am sure God and the Blessed Mother are smiling on us and encouraging us to make each day better than the last.
Thank you David, Shawn and your families for sharing you with us to keep motivating us to God’s gift of life. Your committee have inserviced us well and we are grateful. God bless.
