DAY 9: Wise as serpents, gentle as doves

October 4th, 2012 by admin

Nothing is more powerful in saving lives than prayer and fasting. But in addition to that, 40 Days for Life campaigns are adding something else — texting!

Of the thousands of moms that have chosen life during these campaigns, some have actually sent text messages to the volunteers outside the abortion center, telling them of their last-minute decisions to keep their babies — and thanking them for being there.

I just got a note about how at least one 40 Days for Life location is using text messaging BEFORE women even enter the abortion facility to help save lives … and frustrate Planned Parenthood.

Many Planned Parenthood abortion centers force clients to turn off their phones because the phones supposedly interfere with their equipment. Eileen in Indianapolis says it’s more likely that the phones interfere with their business.

“Perhaps it’s because they might communicate with someone,” Eileen said, “who might persuade them to leave and not have an abortion.”

Prayer volunteers are now holding a sign next to Planned Parenthood’s driveway that says, “Pregnant? Confused? Txt choice” — and it shows a text number. A woman who texts to that number will be put in touch with a counselor.

There’s also a code on the sign that a smart phone can read. The code leads to a web page that gives information on contacting a counselor. (The number is blurred because this service is only active in the Indianapolis area.) “Thank God for wonderful volunteers and creative ways to continue our ministry,” Eileen said. “We are trying to be as wise as a serpent and as gentle as a dove.”

Bobbie is helping to coordinate Easton’s first 40 Days for Life campaign. Her efforts must be working. A Planned Parenthood staffer came out to the sidewalk to tell her to go home.

“I calmly explained what we were doing and that we had permission to assemble through November 4,” Bobbie said. The staff member insisted that they don’t do abortions at that location.

“But, you do refer [for abortion] and we are praying for you and the staff, the clients and babies,” Bobbie responded. The woman said she needed no prayer and marched off. “So I quietly prayed for her!”

The campaign hasn’t been easy. “We are struggling,” she said, “but the benefits and results of the vigil are amazing.”

It was a rainy day in Houston, but the sidewalk outside Planned Parenthood was filled with people praying. The inconvenient weather did not deter them. But it did seem to have a big impact on Planned Parenthood’s escorts.

Around 8:30 that rainy morning, the escorts got in their cars and left — and did not return. In fact, the escorts just haven’t been around much — “the first time in the twelve campaigns we have organized in Houston that they have not opposed us with escorts,” said a 40 Days for Life team member.

The Houston team also tells of a woman who talked to volunteers after her Planned Parenthood appointment. Her pregnancy test was positive. But after she told the Planned Parenthood staff she wasn’t interested in an abortion, she was told they couldn’t help her.

“That surprised her,” said a 40 Days for Life leader, “but not us.”

One of the volunteers in Houston has posted a video showing some of the people standing vigil outside the Planned Parenthood building, which is one of the largest abortion centers in North America.

Here’s the link to today’s devotional.

  3. Kathryn Cherico Says:

The video is great…inspired!! So glad to see a sonogram, women’s care bus at one site. Given a choice most women will want to see what the baby looks like and they will have cause to see LIFE!!

  4. Lynda Lee Says:

That is a wonderful video! Is there any way I can share it with my church family?

Yesterday, while I was outside of our local Planned Parenthood praying, one of the escorts came over to speak to me…..until she was rebuked by another escort for being too friendly with the enemy. Please pray that I can have an opportunity to give her Abby Johnson’s book, “UnPlanned”, and that her heart will be changed. Thank you!

  6. Christopher Says:

Yes! Jesus and Mary will work miracles if only we let them work through us!

I am hoping to do my bit tomorrow, hopefully I actually do it instead of talking about it!

    Great news from Lexington, KY!
Jessica, one of our great prayer warriors, states, “I think we all noticed the young woman standing on the sidewalk in front of the [abortuary]. She stood there looking over at us for 45 minutes to an hour. About 10:20 she walked away from the building and waved at us and said ‘Thanks you all!’. We asked her if she needed anything. She stopped and we gave her hugs, prayed with her, and gave her information about our local pro-life pregnancy center. One of the other women even gave her personal phone number to call if she wanted to talk. She was smiling so big when she left – it was amazing!

I was walking and praying at the local abortion clinic yesterday, when I remembered that last year, for about a week, the clinic had hired a security service – big bulky guys to guard the clinic and patients from us. It was like a little fortress with guards, secure from the threat of harm; how like a child in the womb, safe and secure inside from all harm -until the doctor shows up. They were “under threat” and afraid. Father God, we pray over and bless the children of the womb with Your Love and Your Peace, with Your Deliverance and escapes from death. AMEN!!

I was standing outside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Richmond, VA yesterday and a young woman blatantly stood in front of us to give the finger and had someone take a picture of her doing it. You don’t know how much I wanted to go off on her but instead I told her I was going to pray for her.

I read this verse this morning and God really spoke to me on how we are to be “Christ like”. I wrote the verses down on paper and handed to the next person that took my spot at the vigil. Maybe these words can be encouraging to someone else too.

    Psalm 37:7-8 (NIV)
7 Be still before the Lord
    and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
    8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.

  10. Elizabeth Says:

The video is wondeful, I love the prayers of the volunters. Texting how beautiful is that clever people God has made. See you in phoenix.

  11. Olivia Dipasupil Says:

One may say this is one day late (our group was at the front of the Fletcher Ave. abortion clinic yesterday, the 8th day) but I got home so late because
my car went dead after that heavy downpour. The rain did not deter the cars going in to the clinic….one thing caught my attention though and it
stayed with me. A very young lady (she looked like she’s only maybe 14 or 15) arrived with an older man who appeared much older and I thought he
could very well be her father. My next rosary while standing there in the rain was offered for her and I humbly asked Mama Mary to intercede in her
behalf and ask the Good Lord to touch her heart and her father’s too for the awareness of how precious Life can be. I may not know how it turned out for her but one thing I’m sure of…a seed was planted spiritually in their hearts by way of that rosary and that God has listened and will continue to act upon our need for mercy and love. May we continue to save lives through our prayers and faithfulness through Jesus Christ, our Lord Amen.

On Sunday morning (Oct. 1), I woke up early, and felt the Holy Spirit calling me to attend not just our usual 11:30 Mass with my family, but also the 8:00 Mass as well. So I went–I’ve been wanting to do this for a while–to have a quiet, prayerful time to myself at Mass in addition to the hustle and bustle of getting kids out the door and keeping an eye on them during the service. And boy was I glad I did–this was the first time. Our deacon gave a powerful homily all about the 40 days for life. I was very moved, and came home and talked to my kids about it so they’d be prepared to hear it at the next Mass. I even signed up for a late night hour prayer and adoration at a church a half hour from my home. When I posted my status on facebook the next day something about the forty days and my being on my way to the vigil, my 16-year old daughter told me she “liked” my status. She then went on to tell me that she’d “never thought about the issue like that before” but that now she gets it. Our family has had many trials and tribulations lately, but those two days were Spirit-filled for us. I felt strengthened by the Holy Spirit, and pray that I’ll take advantage of more opportunities to attend extra Masses and pray for life.

Thank you for all the great news and prayers on your website.
I just read an article in the National Catholic Register, Oct. 7, 2012, about the National Pro-Life Cupcake Day. Cupcakes are given away free to celebrate the birthdays of the aborted babies and to generate conversation and education to the general public. Check out their
