DAY 34: 469 lives saved!

October 28th, 2012 by admin

David Bereit, 40 Days for Life’s national director, and I were supposed to be heading out together early this morning to visit 40 Days for Life campaigns in Georgia and Florida …

… but that was before Hurricane Sandy started bearing down on the East Coast and completely shut down our scheduled travel. So now, we’re going to be hunkered down with our families at home in Virginia to ride out the hurricane.

Please keep everyone in the path of the storm in your prayers today. If it’s heading your way, stay safe, and please check with your local 40 Days for Life coordinator, as some vigils may be suspended due to the weather.

Now, as we head into the final week of this campaign, we are overjoyed by all the blessings God has provided as you have faithfully responded to the call to pray and fast for an end to abortion.

So far, we’ve received reports of 469 babies whose lives have been spared from abortion — that we know of!

One of the prayer volunteers had an opportunity to speak to a young man outside the abortion center. They talked about many things — including Jesus.

When they finished talking, the young man went inside the building and found the young woman he had come with. The volunteer says this woman was filled with joy when she came out and said she had decided against the abortion.

A vigil participant spoke with two girls who had come to the abortion center. She described the services available from the local pregnancy help center, and talked about adoption resources as well. The young women left, but said they would return.

When they did, another volunteer gave them additional information … but she was concerned when the two went into the building. When they came out, though, they said they would both be keeping their babies.

A lone prayer volunteer watched as a mother and daughter left the abortion center, got into their car and drove towards the exit.

When they got to where the vigil participant was standing, they stopped. The daughter help up a sonogram and said, “His feet were moving!” Her mother said the girl was 12 weeks pregnant — and the sonogram had convinced her to reject abortion.

Vigil participants noticed a couple waiting in the parking lot early one morning before the abortion center opened. The woman said they had two young children, and a new baby would be difficult to take care of at this time.

One of the counselors told her that life is sacred — and there are many community resources available that will help. Although the father didn’t seem too happy about it, the mother changed her mind — and immediately left the abortion facility to visit the pro-life pregnancy help center.

Another young woman told volunteers that she had come for an abortion, but had decided against it. When they asked her why, she said she felt the presence of evil there and simply had to leave.

You know how we say, “469 saved — that we know of”? Here’s an example of a child whose life was spared — and the 40 Days for Life campaign team didn’t have any idea about it at the time.

Dan in Milwaukee said one day recently — while the abortion center was closed — God showed them a surprise. A child that was saved from abortion during the 40 Days for Life campaign in the spring of 2009 arrived at the vigil. “He’s three years old now,” Dan said. “Beautiful boy!”

Here’s the link to today’s devotional.

  1. Cindy Says:

My dad has been very ill during this campaign so I have not been able to attend the st louis vigil, buy my prayers are with the warriors on the front lines. God bless!

  2. Billy Franz Says:

I have only been able to go for one hour during this saving campaign but God can use even a few short minutes for healing. In the last 15 min. A man approached me quickly and intensely with questions. He asked do you actually take these people into your homes? What can you offer them? He stated they have a rite to their own bodies don’t they?
I asked if he has ever lost a child to an abortion? He responded, two. I told him God loves and he forgives. I told him of the many services with caring and concerned people that are available. He walked off slowly.
Please pray for him and the many dads that are affected by the great loss of their children.

  3. Ellen Palmer Says:

I walk early Monday morning. Many folks drive past the vigil on their way to work.

My thought is that there is little note of my presence with my firiend. Many people just go along with their life and don’t note what is going on to change our culture into a culture of death. The messages from our culture are strong on our children and grandchildren.

We need to fast and pray and be a living witness to life!

  4. Marianne Says:

Twenty three years ago a friend and I began praying on the sidewalk in front of an abortuary that the students of our small college town traveled to. I was so nervous knowing we stuck out like two red peas. Eileen and I never knew if we made a difference in others, but I know it has made a difference in me.

That small town also has a federal pennitenary where our husbands worked with deceitful, violent felons who continued to hate and commit crimes putting others in peril. At the time we began our vigils, I was for the death penalty for certain crimes. Praying for life has softened my heart toward all souls. I now believe, no one is beyond the mercy of God. My Father in heaven loves life, period. He Wills us to be and to Be with Him All ways.

May His Will be done – Vive Jesus!

  5. Amy Says:

40 days for life is important for God’s kingdom to come and for Jesus to return as the end of age in the gospel is that we have fulfilled the very work he called us to do and I thank you all that participated in the 40 days for life and life chains. I am so grateful to see you there and standing infront of our local hospital and highschool. I am filled with joy and courage for the future of our nation that it will become a culture of life again and be fruitful and multiply our generation so that our children and all children will bear witness to their vocation in their lives through the Church.

  6. Eliazabeth Says:

My little prayer to end abortion; Jesus, Mary I love you save souls Jesus Mary I love you save babies.

  7. Jennifer Says:

This campaign my husband has become more fired up than ever. We are praying about leading a vigil in the spring here in Rio Rancho. Please pray if this is the Father’s will.

  8. Theresa Czyzyk Says:

Praying for the unborn and for all who may be affected by the storm. Our thoughts and prayers are also with you David Bereit and Shawn Carney. Lord, hear our prayers … Amen

  9. Lily Jackson Coordinator of Vallejo/Benicia & Am. Cyn Calif. Says:

What impressed me the most is the dedication of my fellow prayer warriors
to pray at the abortion clinic every Wednesday not only at this vigil but all year long. We find it uplifting and enjoyable time to dedicate it to save life of a baby. We persevere verbal assaults from the public driving their cars and negative comments from the clinic workers. I encourage my friends that these comment means that our vigil is effective/working because it is causing discomfort not only to the people but also workers. I do encourage peaceful vigil at all times. It is rewarding to see that the time we spent praying during our vigil for the last three years has save six babies. Our first baby just celebrated her 2nd bday. He is healthy and jolly. We give God the praise and glory for this blessing.

  10. DL Says:

I am moved by how many people having a change of heart employed at abortion facilities and of course I am happy for the babies saved.
