41+: “Thank you” video, bonus devotional

March 18th, 2008 by admin

Our family is back home in Virginia, and amazing success reports continue to flood my e-mail inbox and voicemail.

We stand completely in awe of all that God has done through this 40 Days for Life effort.

Tomorrow I will send you a summary of the many accomplishments (and you are going to be deeply moved by these reports!)

But today, our family wanted to recognize what YOU have done to make this campaign such a success.

Margaret, Claire, Patrick, and I just filmed a 6-minute video on our front porch to say “THANK YOU” for your prayers and your faithfulness.

I hope you enjoy it:

Today’s “bonus” devotional is written for you by Father Frank Pavone, the national director of Priests for Life…

Pray that the witness of 40 Days for Life bears abundant fruit, and that we begin again each day to storm the gates of hell until God welcomes us into the gates of heaven.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. On this rock I will build my church; the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

– Matthew 16:18

When we read this verse, we usually think that the Lord is promising that the church, which is His Body, will withstand all the attacks launched against it.

Of course, that is true. But when we think about it more carefully, we realize that in a battle, the gates do not run out into the battlefield to attack the enemy. Rather, they stand still to defend the city from the enemy attacking it.

So when the Lord says that the gates of hell will not prevail against the church, who is doing the attacking?

It is the church storming the gates!

The church, all of God’s people in Christ, is called to take the offensive, to run into enemy territory, and to gain ground for Jesus Christ.

We do not wait for an invitation; we already have a command.

We prepare, but we do not wait for circumstances to be perfect; we already have one who has gone before us.

During these 40 days, we have stormed the gates. We have taken the offensive. We have pushed forward the boundaries of the kingdom. And we must keep doing so, in numerous ways.

Indeed, the gates of hell will not prevail. The gates of falsehood will flee in the presence of truth. The gates of sin will melt in the presence of grace. The gates of death will fall in the presence of the church, the People of Life!

Father, we praise you. We have heard the voice of your Son, and therefore we can make our voices heard.

We have done battle with the power of evil, and therefore we can have compassion on those still within its grip. We have been freed from the kingdom of darkness, and therefore we can bear witness to your Kingdom of Light.

May the witness of all your people through these 40 Days for Life bear abundant fruit, and may we begin again each day to storm the gates of hell until You welcome us into the gates of heaven.

We pray in the victorious name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Thank you again, and I hope you like the video we made for you!

Yours for Life,

David Bereit

Thank you & your family so much for your faithfulness to this mission. I hope that you’ll do it again soon and I would like to become even more involved in our community! In this world, where evil seems so powerful anymore, it’s wonderful to see Christian people uniting in faith and the power of the spirit and putting God’s plan to work! This is so important. We must end the killing of innocent children!

    Thanks again!

  3. Edith Berry Says:

Dear David. I want to share my experience of the 40 Days for life. Last July I attended my Rachel’s Vineyard retreat. There was awsome healing of the loss of my two children through abortion. I wanted to go to Fargo last fall when the campaign was there but I wasn’t ready to go to the abortion place and pray. I thought if I went with my friend Pam I could do it but I wasn’t ready yet. At this point I can’t go there and pray but I can pray at home and I do. This last 40 Days for life I spent a weekend in Fargo and Saturday I spent with Pam and we went to St. Mary’s to do Stations andAdoration . During Adoration I saw the face of Jesus in the host. During the Staions of the Cross I told Pam I think I’m going to have a heart attck it hurts so bad. Then at the end of out prayer time I saw the statue of the Sacred heart of Jesus. It is one of Him standing. I had to look at it for awhile to make sure it was just a staue and not Jesus in person. The statue had the same face as I had seen in Jesus in a vision I had in Oct.

Now back track to the vision: There was a garbage heap of aborted babies not one whole in the heap. There were arms , legs toros and head all separated from one another. Jesus was in a white robe standing in the middle of the babies the hem of His robe soaked with the blood of the mothers and the babies. He had His arms wide open inviteing us to come to Him for Reconciliation and restoration. We had to walk through our mess to get to Jesus and receive our healing. And supperimpose over Jesus was a priest.

That was the vision months ago now back to St. Mary’s and the Sacred Heart statue. A memory of my support of a friend in Minneapolis between my two abortions. My friend had come to me and told me she was pregnant and the doctor had told her the baby had no hand or feet and it would be easier to have an abortion than to carry the child full term and it die shortly after birth. She told me that and I told her if she wanted or needed someone to go with her to the abortion I would do that and what ever her descion I would support her in it. I didn’t have to go with her but she had the abortion.

As I stood there I was heart broken that I had had a part in the death of another child. Pam and I walked out of St.Mary’s at the side down and I double over as if in pain. Although I had just been to confession the day before I knew if I wanted complete healing for this sin and memory I would have to go to confession again. And so I did.

And that is my story of this 40 Days For Life. Thanks for taking the time to read this and God Bless

Hello David, Margaret, Claire & Patrick,

Thank you for your faithful efforts and encouragement for LIFE. It seems like such a high mountain to climb, but we know that God is for us. Nevertheless, it still seems hard to continue to climb this mountain, but your committment to this cause is inspiring. We must go on to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and support those who have to live with decisions they regret and share the love and forgiveness available through Jesus Christ.
I hope 40 Days For Life will begin to come into Canada soon!

  5. Judie McKitrick Says:

    Dear David and Family,

I am sorry to have missed meeting you when you came to Dayton (Kettering), OH, but I hope the chance will come again with the next 40 Days for Life. It is so refreshing and inspiring to have such a young family lead us in this most important prayer vigil!

The day our parish was scheduled to do the prayer vigil, we had a huge snow storm and after 3 hours we had to cancel the remainder of the day. This was very disappointing to us. However, I have been going to the clinic to pray on Wednesdays and some of my friends have mentioned that they would like to come down also. Many have stated that they wouldn’t participate if we were carring graphic signs or shouting at the clients of the abortion clinic. They are attracted to the 40 Days style of quietly praying on the sidewalk, alone or together. My feeling is, if this is what it takes to bring more people to the forefront of the pro-life cause, than that is a good thing.

God is knocking at the door of our hearts and waits for our answer. Thanks to you and your family David, and all of those who helped to organize 40 Days for Life, we have been given another way to open that door and participate in the pro-life movement.

    God bless you,

    Judie McKitrick

  6. Anna Says:

David, Margaret, Claire and Patrick, thank you for you dedication and
sacrifice for the 40 Days for Life. I am not out of the woods yet but I know that I am well on my way to total healing from my abortion nightmare. I have come a long way from where I was even one year ago as a result of participating in 40 Days for Life.

Because of this ministry I had the courage to visit the National Memorial for the Unborn in TN, and also attend a Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat.
Rachel’s Vineyard helped my bring closure to some very painful issues in my life. I would highly recommend it to any woman or man still struggling with abortion issues.

I have a renewed confidence that God will be with me as I move on. No matter what comes I will serve Him.

I have no doubt that this and other prolife ministries are from the heart of God. For years after my abortion I suffered with many physical and emotional problems that I am now learning were a direct result of my abortion. I am presently reading the book “Aborted Women, Silent No More”. With God’s help I am learning how to forgive those who exploited me and my child for their own purposes. I am horrified at the barbaric procedures that are performed on women and their unborn children every day in our nation. Those of us that have experienced the devastation of abortion must speak out and help bring about the end of abortion. Not only does abortion destroy the life of a child, but it also kills a part of the mother as well.

My life has been forever changed for the better because of your influence through this ministry.

Thank you, and may God continue to Bless you and your family. I keep you and yours in my prayers daily.

  8. Gerry Says:

While driving home for lunch today from the local high school at which I teach, I noticed the abortion clinic three blocks from the school had a “for lease” banner on the building. I don’t know if it moved, or just closed. However, it’s good news that their not located near a high school any longer.

  9. Jane Says:

Dear David, Margaret, Claire, and Patrick,
When I say “God bless you” I mean….GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!!!
abundantly, and with His choicest blessings. May He bless you in EVERY way you need to be blessed. What a glorious Easter this will be. We have been without our “Alleluia” for all of Lent and all of 40 Days for Life, but when we sing it this Sunday, I believe that God will be pleased beyond our comprehension and that the dying to self that was done by those involved will be joined to the Cross of Jesus and will bear great fruit. New Life forever in Jesus!!!

  10. Claudia Says:

Thank you for the message and your dedication to 40 Days For Life and for your dedication to the pro life movement. May God Bless you and your family.

  11. Shirley Sweeney Says:

Dear David and Family, Thank you so much for the daily emails and and encouragement during these past 40 + days. Your prayers are what gave me courage to go and pray outside the abortion place in Southfield, MI (Lathrup Village) more than once. Fr. Ron Brown and about 75 people from his church prayed one evening and they did something I had never seen – A Jerico March – around the Women Care Center in Lathrup Village, MI. I think if Mike checks back on the dates that it was the next week that this abortion place was investaged by the police for improper disposal of baby parts and patient records. We continue to pray that this so called “doctor” and his abortion places will be closed for good.
I look forward for the next 40 Days For Life campaign but I won’t stop praying till then.
God bless you and your family this Easter with His joy and peace.
You will also be in my prayers. Shirley Sweeney

  12. Marie Marshall Says:

I can only imagine how much time, work, effort and sacrifice you and your beautiful family devoted to the 40 days for life movement. Without all your sacrifices the movement would not have achieved the results it did. We know God will bestow many blessings on you and your family for your faithfulness and devotion. Again, thank you, and have a Blessed Easter.

  13. Rita Smith, M.E.V. Says:

Dear David, Margaret, Claire and Patrick,
A.M.D.G. (for the greater glory of God)
God is so good and God bless you all in this Holy Week. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your love, courage and zeal to motivate all the participants and leaders for the Lenten 40 Days for Life! I truly believe that this IS the beginning to the end of abortion in our country.
“All that is required for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing.”
There have been so many miracles and seeds planted throughout America.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the unborn and the Americas, please, please, please pray for us!!! Enjoy a blessed Easter and much needed rest with your family and we will continue to fight the good fight! With God All Things Are Possible!!!

  14. J. Angele Says:

Dear David, Margaret, Claire and Patrick,

You cannot imagine the joy your little video gave me. Rick and John put together a very wonderful slide show from our photos outside of Bryn Mawr Hospital. We showed them at our Finalé Celebration last night. We had a wonderful spread by our Events Coordinatior, Megan, helped by Vanessa and John. Then after we ate well, we gathered before the slide show to share our experiences, speak of the impact of the 40 days for life on each of us, etc.

During our 40 days we did exhorcisms around the 4 corners of Paoli, Bryn Mawr and Lankenau Hospitals, binding the spirits according to the “Prayer of Binding Over Demons Who Infest Abortion Centers” composed by Fr. Thomas Euteneuer, President of Human Life International and Exhorcist. We used exhorcism water on the 4 corners as we processed praying the Rosary around the buildings. We feel confident that Jesus honored our prayers. Thanking you and your family, ever again, for your incredible training, fidelity and encouragement. It was so good to have you with us as the French Dominican TV Crew filmed us. They will show it on Public French Television just 2 weeks before Pope Benedict XVI arrives in America. Thank God for all His Resurrection Blessings!

  15. kathy lake Says:

Thank you so much for helping us to begin to wake up America of the scourge of Abortion. I have been volunteering at Problem Pregnancy a Crisis Pregnancy Center in Worcester, Ma. since 1987 and it is so encouraging to see the rising up of so many new soldiers to help us end abortion. Thank you so much for all you have done these last 40+days. We will win. Just seeing the insanity going on with our 2 pro abortion presidential candidates over the last 40days tells me that God is really working and rewarding us for our efforts in ways we could never have planned. We need to look beyond what is happening at the abortion clinics to see how good our God is.

  16. Don Millard Says:

    Hi David & Family,
Your dedication and faith has been a spur to a lot of people, including myself. I can see where so much has happened for the good; if only for the witness of what a pregnancy really is…

In Isaiah 49 the Lord is speaking to Israel through His prophet:
The Israelites were complaining that God had forgotten them. And God’s response is very powerful & clear: “Even if a woman forgets the child in her womb, I will never forget you!” Is 49:15….

We are not called to be successful, only to be faithful… M. Teresa.

Hopefully, we all can continue to strive to bring abortion, embryonic stem cell research and human cloning to an end along with the recision of Roe v. Wade…. We pray for you and all those working and praying to end this horrific injustice. By any measure, this is the bloodiest century… ever!

May God continue to bless you, David and your family…
Don Millard, Charlotte, NC (Hebron Family Reproductive … abortion mill… & Carolina Women’s Center… Abortion Mill on La Trobe)

May the protection, presevation and respect for a-l-l human life come about sooner rather than later,

God give you peace and strength… DBM
