Pro-life advocates launch second 40 Days for Life campaign in Honolulu
Event promotes peaceful, prayerful, public vigil at local abortuary
HONOLULU, HI – On February 25, 2009, O'ahu pro-life advocates will launch a second 40 Days for Life campaign in Honolulu, one of 135 cities in North America, Australia, and Northern Ireland where people of faith are praying for an end to abortion.
40 Days for Life is an intensive, pro-life initiative that includes 40 days of prayer and fasting; 40 days of peaceful, public vigil at local abortion facilities; and 40 days of grassroots educational outreach to the community. The concept for the event is drawn from examples in the Bible in which God transformed people, nations, and the world during various 40-day periods. The Honolulu event will provide an opportunity for people to gather in silent prayer in front of the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic at 1350 S. King St., Honolulu.
“People in Hawai'i will join with literally thousands of others around the world to pray, fast, and educate our friends and 'ohana about the tragedy that is abortion. We believe that as women and men who have suffered from the tragic consequences of abortion begin to step forward and share their stories, many in our community will begin to understand that there are far better choices that they can make for their unborn children in an unplanned pregnancy situation. We want pregnant women, their partners, and their families to know that the pro-life community offers help and hope,” said Karen DiCostanzo, communications coordinator for the campaign.
Shawn Carney, national campaign director for 40 Days for Life commented, “We are certainly going to have an exciting spring 40 Days for Life campaign and I, for one, can’t wait to see what God has in store!” To learn more about the 40 Days for Life global campaign, visit www.40DaysForLife.com.
