Where Does It All Begin?
 by Olivia Roskos

Stop abortion now! Abortion hurts women and children!
Abortion is murder! At one time or another you have probably
seen these signs. Perhaps on the back of a car, or being
held at a rally. A small group of "anti-abortionists" as
some would call us, gather together holding up these signs.
Passersby look out their car windows quickly trying to read
each slogan. Squinting their eyes, looking into the
distance, a small wooden sign catches their  attention.
Planned Parenthood.  It seems to be giving off a message of
family, friendliness, and hope. They ask themselves, why are
these people fighting against a family health care center?
Little do they know of the 4 million babies that have been
killed through Planned Parenthood, making it the largest
chains of abortion centers ever.

What exactly is Planned Parenthood? Many think it is a small
quaint health care center providing aid for women and their
families. Their message states: "At Planned Parenthood we
believe that people have the right to decide whether or not
to have children, we offer non-judgmental supportive
counseling, and we believe that everyone should be allowed
to make their own choices about their bodies and
lifestyles."

Since 1970, Planned Parenthood has been feeding our schools,
communities, and even  our churches with this lie, renaming
it as their "promise to you." After visiting their
website many decide that, "this organization is not as
harmful or evil as everyone makes it out to be." Planned
Parenthood does not present itself as pushing our society
into promiscuity, sex, the use of birth control, and
abortion.

Where does it all start? Abortion is not your everyday
dinner conversation, not something you casually talk about
with your neighbors. "Abortion is selfish murder; wrong
and unjust" as Christians we all should agree with this
concept. Abortion starts with the biggest provider of this
atrocity entering our schools communities and churches as
your "next-door-neighbor health care center." Their
message is targeted towards youth, women of every ethnic
group, and even men making Planned Parenthood a place for
everyone.

In our schools, Planned Parenthood takes on the
responsibility of teaching "Safe Sex Education" in the
classrooms. Their theory is that medically accurate sex
education should begin in kindergarten and in the 8-12 grade
children should be learning a lot of explicit information.
Although abstinence is the only 100% guarantee of not
becoming pregnant it is certainly not the most realistic.
"We are more concerned about preventing teen pregnancies
than dealing with sexual relationships." Teens are taught
that "finding themselves sexually" is normal and that
the decision to be sexually active is totally up to the
individual. Little by little they urge these students to
always use condoms and birth control "just in case they
feel abstinence is too hard of a decision." They also
portray that not in all cases will condoms and birth control keep you
from becoming pregnant and that is why there is abortion.
This teaching then allows the student to think, "Is it
really so bad to quietly end a pregnancy if it's not a
convenient situation?

The former director of Planned Parenthood in Minnesota
quoted "If Planned Parenthood had no abortion, it would
see its soul unravel." In the seven years from 1999-2006
Planned Parenthood raised more than 350 million dollars.
"We see abortion as a necessary desirable service and as
an integral piece of comprehensive reproductive health care
services." No more back-alley abortions; it is now a safe
and legal procedure. An abortion is "Safer than having
your tonsils removed and twice as safe as giving birth
before the 18th week of pregnancy."

This organization takes no shame in presenting its abortion
procedures to the public. The three types of abortion are:
suction aspiration, dilation and curettage, and dilation and
evacuation. Using terms for suction aspiration as
"emptying the uterus" instead of  "tearing the
baby's body into pieces", and for dilation and
evacuation, instead of a suction tool to "gently emptying
the uterus" the baby and placenta are cut into pieces and
scraped out into a basin. By using deceptive words and
re-assuring phrases it gives the patient a feeling of
confidence.

Teenwire.com (Planned Parenthood's youth website) ensures
that an abortion rarely ever leaves women with emotional
trauma or regret. Only 20% of women who have had an abortion
show any signs of depression which usually pass over very
quickly. Actually, most women receive a sense of relief.
Studies from the Elliot Institution ( an after abortion
research website) stated to the contrary that 79% of the
women that had undergone an abortion felt a negative change,
and it had made a drastic horrible difference in their lives.

If abortion is not murder why did the founders and
supporters of Planned Parenthood admit that "of course"
abortion is killing? In 1997 Fay Wattleton announced "I
think we have deluded ourselves into believing that people
don't know that abortion is killing. So any pretense that
abortion is not killing is a signal of ambivalence, a signal
that we cannot say yes, it kills a fetus, but it is the
woman's body and therefore ultimately her choice. Margaret
Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, also exclaimed,
"Let us cease bringing unwanted children into the world to
suffer for a while, add to our burdens and die. Let us cease
bringing others into the world to compete with us for a living."

How much longer will we as a nation allow Planned Parenthood
to teach immoral, ungodly sex education, deceitful lies to
women, and delusory abortion procedures? How can we stop the
killing, and the mindset that a baby is just a "glob of
tissue"? How can we expose the truth about Planned
Parenthood to the next generation? Grab a sign and  show
America, that together, we can stop Planned Parenthood.

Kirsten Roskos is 15 years old is homeschooled and has been in the involved in the pro-life ministry for the past 2 years. She has attended numerous pickets at both locations and has a big heart for this worthy cause. She won 2nd place in a pro-life poster contest, has written and composed a song about abortion, and the following memoir, and won 1st place last year in biological science in the County Science Fair for her grade. Her topic was on babies concerning heart rate and gender. Flathead Pro-Life generously loaned her the plastic u baby models for her display. She would love to use her gift of the Spanish language and someday deliver babies in a third world country. Like Olivia, she would love to see more teens involved and encourages them to take part in this vital ministry

Silence is not an option; ignorance is not bliss
By Kirsten Roskos

There were usually about ten of us. We met in a private
parking lot and gathered as a group to pray before we
started our endeavor. Clutching my sign I thought what this
day would offer. We made our way down to the stop light then
crossed the street finally making our way to the clinic.
Each of us held one or more signs and “silently”
picketed. I fondly remember a few of the expressions on some
of our older members’ faces. I truly knew that they
were fervently praying for this vital cause.

I felt discouraged sometimes. Picketing didn’t always
seem to make a difference. However, I remembered that even
if we could plant just one seed in someone’s heart to
rescue one life, to save just one life, it would be worth
the many numerous days that we devoted to picketing. The
sanctity of life is so precious and not only were we
representing life but also our dear Lord and Savior. I
recollected praying asking God to bring others to defend the
unborn and also to come to the knowledge of Him.

Sometimes it was difficult not to feel disheartened because
we didn’t always receive the greatest response from
passersby. I had determined that there were four different
“sects” of people. The first sect was the
“awkward expressionists.” I would say that this
is a most convenient title given that they would awkwardly
glance or give an expression that would put us in the
category of aliens from a different planet. The second group
was always encouraging, as they would honk or wave saying
that they too supported life. Sect three on the other hand,
didn’t give the most pleasant response as they shouted
foul obscenities. Lastly, sect four was so caught up in
their own little world that they didn’t even have time
to look or just take a quick glimpse at what we were
holding, what I was representing. Sadly, this was the
majority of the response from the public;
nothing…absolutely nothing.

I remember pondering in my mind if it was just ignorance or
a lack of caring. Looking back, I believe it’s both.
People are ignorant and they just don’t care. As long
as they’re alive and their “world” is ok
that’s all that matters. I believe the proverbial
statement “ignorance is bliss” is just not true.
It’s not blissful when we don’t know that almost
4,000 unborn babies are being aborted a day. It’s not
blissful when we’re deceived into thinking that
it’s just a “blob of tissue.” It’s
most certainly not blissful when we’re perhaps just
too ignorant to know that the world’s biggest
holocaust is happening right now. No, I don’t believe
in stupidity but I do believe that ignorance is the perfect
statement for the world in which I and everyone else
resides.

My memories of these events are so vivid because standing up
for what one believes in is not an easy thing. God created
life and every little unborn human should be given the
chance to live. It’s that plain and simple. One might
ask why our world gives the message that babies are so
complicated and dreadful. I don’t have an answer, but
I do know that “We all like sheep have gone astray; we
have turned, every one, to his own way.” Some have
chosen the path of darkness and some have chosen the path of
light. Don’t be silent, don’t be ignorant, be
courageous; take part with the few who choose life.
