Summary of the fall 2010 40 Days for Life Campaign (from Stan "The Man" Siok):

Below is the Summary of the participation in the 40 Days for Life Campaign, and other articles related to the closing of the fall 2010, 40 Days for Life Campaign. Doris Gagnon and Ruth Lobo took part in the Closing Rally and provide insights on how to continue the work we started in this Campaign. The support and involvement of Archbishop Terrence Prendergast was pivotal to the success of this Campaign. The Archbishop was as the Closing Rally, and presided over the Vespers Service at Saint Patrick’s Basilica which immediately followed the Rally. Summary of Ottawa’s 2010 40 Days life Campaign - This summary describes how this latest Campaign set new milestones in terms of numbers present at one time at Ground Zero.The main reason for this impressive presence was the larger mobilization of Parish and other groups in this pro-life cause. The introductory paragraph quotes Pope John Paul II, who stated that in our struggle against the Culture of Death, “… Do not be afraid to go out on the streets and into public places…Do not be afraid to break out of comfortable and routine modes of living …” To read more, click on summary. Fr. Frank Pavone on storming the gates of hell - In his latest reflection available of the 40 Days for Life Web site, Fr. Pavone offers an insightful perspective on the following Scriptural passage: “On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” -- Matthew 16:18 “Indeed, the gates of hell will not prevail. The gates of falsehood will flee in the presence of truth. The gates of sin will melt in the presence of grace. The gates of death will fall in the presence of the church, the People of Life!” During these 40 days, we have stormed the gates. We have taken the offensive. We have pushed forward the boundaries of the kingdom. And we must keep doing so, in numerous ways. To read more, click on gates of hell. The work is just beginning - Now that the 40 Days Campaign is ended, do we wait until the next Campaign to get involved again? As Shawn Carney, Campaign Director for 40 Days for Life recently said: “ We’ve always said that 40 Days for Life is but a first step. Now, it’s time to take the next step. What will that next step be? For you personally? For your community?” Here are a few suggestions to consider: Doris, who is head of Sidewalk Counseling with our 40 Days Campaign, proposes to maintain a prayerful presence at the abortion mill at 65 Bank St. on certain days and times when the abortions take place. Helpers of God's Precious Infants: Hello fellow Helpers, First of all, an update about the young woman from Gatineau I asked you to pray for. It looks as though she has decided to keep her child. Keep her in your prayers as her family situation is difficult and she also has had an abortion in the past. My prayer for her is that this pregnancy will open up her heart to receive God's healing grace. Well, we've made it through another 40 Days for Life campaign. It seems the 40 Days tends to attract the "Pink pro-choice ladies". If last year is any indication, they probably won't be out there now that the 40 Days campaign is over, which is fine by me. They were getting much more aggressive, interfering with our attempts to reach out to the abortuary's clients. The Helpers will now take over for the other 325 days, because, unfortunately, the killing is not limited to only 40 days a year. We continue to maintain our prayerful presence from Wednesday to Saturday from 7am to 5 pm. This week, we will have sidewalk counsellors present on Friday morning from 8 to noon. A few weeks ago, I met a young woman on Bank who was praying for the 40 Days for Life. She told me about a dream she had just had the night before. I have just received an email from her which just sent a chill down my spine. Please pray for these two sisters and their family. Here is her email :

We met outside the abortuary, and I told you about my dream. You remember the dream? In my dream, my sister was newly pregant, and she and I were in a taxi cab trying to find her an abortion clinic. IN my heart, in the depths of my being, I was crying out to her please! dont have this abortion! You are making a big mistake!" but I could not get the words out. I felt like this evil, invisible force to struggle with to get the words out. There was so much pressure against me. Finally in the dream, I did get the words out. "please, do not have this abortion!" and I woke up The dream left me feeling so awful. That same day I ended up in front of the abortion clinic, where I met you and told you about my dream. I also told you, I don't know if you rememebr, when I prayed, There was such an intensity that it was as if some force was giving power to my prayer. I felt so storng and deep in my prayer. So strong, and I felt something very powerful. Wouldn't you know it... I talked to my dad just a few adys ago... it turns out, my little sister is pregnant. And as it turns out, she was seriously considering having an abortion, but changed her mind. So the dream came true. But please, my sister is not out of the woods yet. I'm begging you for prayers. her name is C. thanks M.

It's me again. I managed to get a little more web time. PLease, if you can, forward the email I sent you, so people will pray for my littel sister to stick to her decision to keep the baby, and to clean up her life and get with it. She was just recently addicted to crack cocaine, and I think she has stopped now, thouhg contact with her is very rare, so I do not know for sure. I am going to ask another prayer circle to pray for her as well. The father does not want to stay with my sister, but he says he wants to be the dad. I pray that they will stay together, and together, try to change their lives around. Right now my sister lives with my mom and step dad, who drink and do drugs. The situation is very desperate, so please, if you can help, do anything you can. Forward this to as many prayer people as you can. thank you, and God bless you. M.

I thank God that I was able to meet with M. and that I had given her my email. Now I am able to share this urgent request with you. God works in mysterious ways indeed! Let's keep praying! These young mothers have so much going against them. I am so glad to hear that the baby's father is willing to take on his responsibilities. Let's pray that both parents will have the wisdom to choose what is best for their child, even if that means placing him/her into an adoptive family.Doris

Ground Zero Report - Closing Rally

Last night, Halloween night, about 120 valiant 40 Days for Lifers showed up at Ground Zero in the frigid, howling wind to hear some inspiring talks and belt out some hymns. We were there to mark the end of another remarkable 40 Days for Life Campaign in Ottawa, the fourth of these campaigns here in the nation's capital. We heard some hope-filled talks from our ever-valiant sidewalk counsellor Doris, as well as some encouraging words and the current news from our latest pro-life heroine, Ruth Lobo, and her struggles with the so-called authorities of Orwellian "higher education" at Carleton University.

Ground Zero Report ...from a Lifer in the U.S......

Today I went back to Planned Parenthood to retrieve an umbrella that I had left with a friend earlier in the day. As I stood in front of the clinic chatting with a fellow pro lifer a group of teenage boys approached us on the sidewalk. We were so engrossed in our conversation that we weren't paying careful attention to the direction the "Pray to end abortion" sign was facing, which happened to be facing away from the teenagers. As the boys walked past us I noticed them looking backward to read the sign. As my eyes met the last boy in the group I expected him to say something to impress his friends. I remember being a teenager and what can happen when a group of them get together. Peer pressure is a powerful influence. I had just finished that thought when to my amazement the young man fell to his knees and began praying while his friends continued walking down the sidewalk. "I've never seen anything like that before." I said to my friend who turned his gaze to the boy and his friends who were now all turning around facing their friend. As the other four boys stared at their friend on his knees I was certain one of them would say something to discourage him. The approval of your friends is incredibly important as a teenager -- often more important than the approval of your parents and family. And just as I completed that thought another boy in the group fell to his knees and began praying. I can't believe my eyes." I said, as the remaining three boys looked on in dismay as their two friends knelt before the Planned Parenthood in prayer. I wanted to run over and give them both a hug and tell them I was praying for their kind of courage. The courage to serve God even if it means the ridicule of those whose opinions matter most. I have to wonder what the world would be like if everyone were no longer afraid of what their friends and colleagues thought and simply served God when their hearts told them to do it. The Bible says the prayer of the righteous man availeth much, so I am left to speculate about the effectiveness of my own prayers, but I know the the prayers of those two boys went straight to heaven and into the ears of God.
