Prayer & Fasting

Scripture

Prayer takes many forms, starting with scripture.   Consider making a commitment to reading the New Testament over the course of this 40 Day Campaign.   A mere 1/2 hour per day should be sufficient to read through the bible, following this plan.

Daily Devotionals

40 Days for Life is rooted in prayer. To help us keep focused on the Lord and in tune with His guidance, we will prepare a series of daily devotionals for each of the 40 days of the campaign.

We fervently believe that prayer and fasting will end abortion, and your prayers will be very much needed and appreciated.

Devotionals will appear online during the campaign from September 24 through November 2. Printable versions will also be available.

To receive devotionals and other campaign information by e-mail, please use the "get updates" form at the top right corner of this page. You can also directly download the entire list of devotionals.

Fasting Recipes

Local prayer volunteers have found that combining the Lemonade Recipe used by Pastor Walter Hoye during his liquid only fast, and a homemade multi-grain raisin bread recipe allowed them to limit their diet to these two items only (along with multi-vitamins) during the 40 Days for Life campaign.   Before you engage in any fast, it is prudent to first consult with your doctor to ensure that your health will not be harmed.   If a complete fast isn't something you are called to do, consider skipping a meal each day, or avoiding a favorite food for the duration of the campaign.   Fasting can be giving up anything in your life that does not give Glory to God and doing so as a gift to God.

Lemonade
To Make 1 Gallon
1 1/2 cups Lemon Juice (Whole Foods carries Organic Lemon Juice)
1 1/2 cups Maple Syrup (Whole Foods & Trader Joe's prices are better than most)
add Water to 1 gallon.

recipe can be halved by - 3/4 cups each Lemon Juice & Maple Syrup & water to 1/2 gallon (2 quarts)

Multi-Grain Raisin Bread
(for breadmakers, add ingredients in the following order)
1 1/4 cups water
2 Tablespoons butter or margarine
1 1/3 cups White Bread Flour
1 1/3 cups Whole Wheat Flour
1 cup 7 grain cereal (this is found in the hot cereal section, it may come as 8 or 10 grain)
3 Tablespoons packed brown sugar
1 1/4 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon yeast

Use your breadmaker to make a dough.   When the dough is ready, take it from the machine, roll out flat and sprinkle 1 cup of raisins over the dough (you can also sprinkle lightly with cinnamon/sugar mixture) and roll the bread up like a log.   Cover with a  pastry cloth and allow to rise one more time (approximately 40 minutes) and place into a preheated 375 degree oven for 35-40 minutes.

Prayers for Our Nation

As election years come on us on a regular basis, it only makes sense that we pray for Our Nation, Our Leaders and Our Citizens each time we approach an election cycle.   Please consider participating in this Prayer for Our Nation on a daily basis, throughout the end of the campaign.

Share Your Favorite Form of Prayer and Fasting with Others
