GET INVOLVED in 40 Days for Life

Here's how you can get involved:

1. Pray and fast

Christ told us that some demons can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. The two go hand-in-hand. Prayer keeps us rooted in the fact that it is our desire to carry out God's will. Fasting is a sacrifice that helps us reach beyond our own limitations with God's help. Fasting is not a Christian diet; it is a form of physical prayer. You can fast from food, TV, alcohol ... anything that separates you from God.

Please commit to pray and fast during this 40-day campaign, for the world-wide effort to end abortion, and for our efforts here in Worcester.

2. Sign up for daily prayer intentions & updates

To stay connected with the 40 Days for Life effort and receive daily prayer intentions and breaking news from around the country, sign up to receive the national campaign's email updates by entering your name and email address at the top right of this page.  If you'd also like to receive our local campaign's weekly newsletter, leave us a message at 508-887-1064.

3. Spread the word

The success of 40 Days for Life depends on the most powerful form of advertising in the world -- word of mouth. Tell all of your friends, family members, co-workers, and fellow believers about 40 Days for Life. Encourage them to visit this web site where they can learn more and get involved.

4. Get your parish, congregation, or group involved

Use the many resources under the "Forms/Documents" tab at the top of the page to promote this effort to your parish, church congregation, or group.  You'll find:

  • Printable campaign flyers
  • A prayer and fasting sign-up form
  • A vigil sign-up form
  • Vigil site tips
  • ...and many more helpful documents.

5. Participate in the peaceful prayer vigil

You can help make a life-saving impact by joining our local vigil at:

Planned Parenthood
470 Pleasant Street
Worcester, MA  01609

Sign up to Vigil
Sign up to participate in the vigil by clicking on the "Vigil Schedule" link at the top of this page.  When you sign up to cover a slot on the vigil calendar, your name will not appear online; the schedule will show that the time slot is covered by a "Prayer Volunteer."

If you are a first-time vigiler, contact your parish pro-life rep to see if you can arrange to go to the vigil with someone else.  Or utilize the information on the "Vigil Schedule" to sign up for a time when others will be there.  If you have any trouble using the Vigil Schedule, you can call 508-887-1064 for help.

Statement of Peace
To participate in the vigil, you need to sign a "Statement of Peace" pledging to conduct yourself in a Christ-like manner.  This form can be signed online through the "Vigil Schedule" or can be printed from the "Forms/Resource Documents" tab.  Please return the completed printed form to your group's representative.

Parking
Parking is available at Blessed Sacrament Parish on Pleasant St. and on Hudson and Dewey Streets.  For those with limited mobility, the parking closest to the vigil site is on the corner of Pleasant and Hudson Streets.  DO NOT PARK IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE MEDICAL BUILDING AT 475 PLEASANT STREET OR YOUR CAR MAY BE TOWED.

Buffer Zone
Massachusetts law has created a 35 ft. buffer zone around entrances to abortion facilities.  The buffer zones on Pleasant St. and on Dewey St. are clearly marked, white arcs painted on the sidewalk and street.  Please stand on the sidewalk across the street from Planned Parenthood to pray so you will not be in the buffer zone.

Restroom Facilities
The closest public restroom facilities are at Dunkin' Donuts, 211 Chandler St. (on the corner of Mason and Chandler Streets).  When you are standing on Pleasant Street facing Planned Parenthood, Mason Street is to your left on the same side as Planned Parenthood.  Follow Mason about a block and a half, and the Dunkin' Donuts will be on your left before you cross Chandler.

Vigil Tips
Before you come to pray at the vigil, please read our "Vigil Tips" under the "Forms/Resource Documents" tab for more information.
