It may not be news to you, but college life isn’t always easy for pro-life students.
From the day they set foot on campus, their pro-life convictions are attacked–and even mocked–by liberal university professors who are often intolerant of any ideas but their own.
When we established the 4040 Scholarship–$4,040 toward tuition–to honor pro-life students making a difference in their communities last year, we were flooded with worthy applications.
We’ll award the 4040 Scholarship again at the West Coast Walk for Life in January…so apply–or get your favorite student to apply–by December 15.
Former abortion provider and current 40 Days for Life board member, Dr. Haywood Robinson, recently visited St. Norbert College in Green Bay, Wisconsin for an “Ask a Former Abortionist Anything” question and answer session. More than 100 people attended.
“We met people that just happened to be walking by and came and wanted to know more about 40 Days for Life after they heard the talk,” said Ellen from the Green Bay leadership team. “It is really powerful to hear from someone who came from the other side of this issue.”
Not everybody was happy to have a pro-life former abortionist on campus.
One pro-life student reported several of her classmates were upset that a pro-life speaker came to their school.
“That’s ok,” said Carolyn in Green Bay. “The more discussion the better.”
Before heading to Green Bay, Dr. Robinson spoke in Madison, Wisconsin where, a decade ago, he addressed thousands of pro-lifers at a rally that helped successfully keep a late-term abortion center from opening at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
On his return visit, Dr. Robinson told vigil participants that, early in his medical career, he knew performing abortions wasn’t right…but money was a powerful motivator.
He also told of the power of the Lord’s grace, leading him from being an abortion provider to a pro-life Christian–a powerful and hopeful reminder that nobody is beyond the reach of God’s mercy.
In another college town, Gainesville, Florida, the abortion facility has trotted out the tired ploy of using the local 40 Days for Life vigil as a fundraising opportunity.
While it is unusual to see a for-profit business hosting a fundraiser, the gimmick does confirm two things:
- The abortion industry really is driven by money
- Peaceful prayer really does make an impact on an abortion center’s bottom line
These schemes pop up across the United States from time to time, but they very rarely reach their fundraising goals. Fortunately, the vast majority of Americans just don’t want to pay a business to kill children.
Scripture and Prayer
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all, to stand. — Ephesians 6:12-13
Dear Lord, as you lead us into the spiritual battle of abortion may we be reminded that the battle is truly Yours. Thank you for hearing our requests for direction and protection. Thank you for the victory that is ours because of Your Son Jesus.
