DAY 22: A life hangs in the balance

When a mother chooses life on the sidewalk–we celebrate!

But in so many cases when an abortion-vulnerable woman is undecided, we must do all we can and then entrust the situation to God. That is easier said than done–especially since every hour can seem like a year. Here’s an example:

I can help you,” Memphis 40 Days for Life leader, Kathy, told a woman who was walking into Planned Parenthood.

“I need an ultrasound,” the woman replied. “I know I am pregnant.”

Kathy brought her to a nearby pregnancy help center. “She is still on the fence about abortion,” Kathy said. “But she did book a second appointment with the pregnancy center!”

Pray that this mother–and all moms who are on the fence about whether to abort their babies–find the courage to choose life!

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Monique in Philadelphia met a couple seeking to abort their baby. The mother was so afraid that she was throwing up.

“Look at you…you are such a blessing to your family and your husband!” Monique encouraged her. “You are so beautiful and wonderful. Your child will be the same!”

When the worried mom told Monique she was a Christian, they had a long talk about God’s love and the need to think and pray hard before making choices that will take us farther away from Heaven.

She agreed…but wouldn’t commit to choosing life. “I am continuing to pray though that God still moved her heart and has saved this child’s life,” Monique said. “Please pray with me for this mom.”

Thousand Oaks, California

Volunteers in Thousand Oaks observed a couple pull into the parking lot of the abortion facility. But instead of entering the building, they stayed in the car and talked. Five minutes later, the car left Planned Parenthood!

“We don’t know for sure, but perhaps a mind was changed,” said Leonore, the Thousand Oaks 40 Days for Life leader. “We prayed for the couple and all the workers and patients of the day.”

Hempstead, New York

A 40 Days for Life volunteer attempted to hand a flyer to a couple leaving the abortion facility. “They brushed me off,” the volunteer reported.

But after walking and talking for five minutes, they returned to accept the flyer…and a few words of encouragement. Seeing that she held an ultrasound image, the volunteer invited her to visit the local pregnancy center for help. The couple departed down the block once again.

“She was still crying,” the volunteer said. “Please pray for them.”

Scripture and Prayer

Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this, in His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. — Job 12:9-10

Thank you, Father God, for being the Creator of my life and every life. Please give me, and the society in which I live, an appreciation for your gift of life. Please help us set aside our pride and acknowledge that we need you. Show me how I can honor you today in response to all the blessings you bestow freely.
