Volunteers at the kickoff of Augusta's tenth 40 Days for Life vigil stood and prayed next to huge piles of snow.

Janet, the local leader, was encouraged with both the turnout and the fact that there were at least "a few patches of grass peeking out of the snow."

One of the speakers talked about about intercessary prayer. "Intercessary prayer is standing in the gap," she said. "While standing in the gap we are like a bridge helping people get from where they are and where they need to be in God."

Among the kickoff topics was the importance of fasting, with another speaker explaining the different types of fasting that volunteers can engage in during the campaign.
