40 Days for Life: Scotland's Free Speech Crackdown Looks a Lot Like North Korea
Bryan, Texas – Today, 40 Days for Life blasted the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, for her rampant attempts to ban peaceful, silent prayer outside of abortion clinics, likening Sturgeon to dictators in North Korea and China. Sturgeon’s desire to deny freedom of speech in her own country and lock up anyone who disagrees with her personal views mirrors that of violent, anti-free speech dictators worldwide.
In a recent BBC interview, Sturgeon labeled these peaceful Scottish volunteers as “intimidating” and “harmful” to the women trying to terminate their babies. Sturgeon is a bigot who uses her power and authority to ban those in the public square who dare disagree with her views. If Sturgeon successfully attempts to silence the Scottish people, it is now easier to do a 40 Days for Life campaign in China and work with the Chinese government than with Scotland.
40 Days for Life is not alone in likening Sturgeon to North Korean and Chinese dictators. During the covid crisis, Sturgeon released clips of children thanking the First Minister for her work during the pandemic. However, this video was quickly removed after comparisons were made with that of totalitarian North Korea. Sturgeon has also received a fair amount of praise from North Korea for her 2014 Scottish Independence campaign. According to a 2014 report by The Telegraph, North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un would have been keen to increase trade with a newly independent Edinburgh.
Freedom of speech is being persecuted worldwide in places you would not usually find. Defending free speech in Europe is vital for free speech in America, where the FBI continues to raid pro-life volunteers. If Scotland wants to ignore freedom of speech, if they want to ban or lock up those that disagree with them, 40 Days for Life will fight them, and we will fight them with legal action.
40 Days for Life will continue to protect and defend freedom of speech throughout the world against bigoted bullies like Sturgeon, who are working to silence and intimidate peaceful and legal prayer. Defending freedom of speech worldwide has and will continue to save the lives of the most silenced and most defenseless among us: the unborn.
