Testimonials

Kathryn Medina, Leader, Pueblo, Colorado

I was faced with a summons to appear in court for shouting out to a lady in the parking lot of our local killing center here in Pueblo, Colorado. I was scared and concerned that our local liberal judicial system would send me to jail just to make an example [of me]. I was scared. I had never been in this situation before. I [didn’t] know what could happen. I then got a call from Dwight A. Theresa and Dwight were so helpful and professional. Even though the judge said the District Attorney dropped the charges, once I was there alone facing the judicial system alone, Dwight made me feel more confident in facing the judicial system. He informed me of what was going to happen—the charges and consequences for first time offenders. I had no clue. He helped me with this process.

Kathy Walsh, Leader, Nashville, Tennessee

I appreciate the legal help that was provided by the 40 Days for Life Institute of Law & Justice. I had been trying to determine the property line for Planned Parenthood with no luck, but the lawyer, Dwight Artis, was able to quickly determine the property line. And when I did not understand his explanation, he stayed on the phone with me while he emailed me a picture with the Planned Parenthood property line shaded in red. It is very helpful to know the actual property line. I had been told that the fence was built on the property line, but the Planned Parenthood employees have run out to yell at us any time a foot or a sign touched the grass. It turns out that the grass is Planned Parenthood’s, but now I know that we will need to be more careful. I am so glad to finally know for sure.

Mark Baumgartner, Former Leader, Columbia, South Carolina

We are thankful for Matt Britton and his team at the Institute of Law & Justice for sticking up for us against the biased actions of the City of Columbia Police Department and the efforts of the City to limit our free speech rights. After IL&J attorneys held a meeting with police and city officials, the unequal treatment and harassment stopped. I am sure that without the IL&J’s work, the police would still be running all over us, abusing their authority, and enforcing “laws” that don’t exist in order to limit our freedoms and silence our witness. Thank you, Matt, and the entire Institute of Law & Justice team, for your effective and much appreciated work!

Jim Ball, Leader, Green Bay, Wisconsin

In Green Bay, I’ve had the need to call on the Institute for Law & Justice on two occasions, and I’m not sure what was more reassuring: the speed of the response, the clarity and totality of the response, or the decisiveness of the path forward recommendations. As 40 Days for Life vigil leaders, we need to be concerned with filling shifts and promoting this incredible peaceful, prayerful vigil to our communities. The IL&J not only offers a security blanket for all things legal, it gives us the opportunity to educate our teams and reassure them that we are not alone. It is the missing piece in our communication with law enforcement and media and makes our job as leaders so much more manageable. This is the missing link, because the IL&J strengthens us significantly at the grassroots, where this fight to save moms and babies is being fought and won.

Bob Brechtel, Leader, Casper, Wyoming

This spring will be our fourth 40 Days for Life campaign at this facility, which advertises abortion access through the second trimester and also offers chemical abortion. On December 8, I was approached by a person who represented the United States Commission on Civil Rights. He said he was sent to deliver a message that people representing the commission wanted to have a talk with me. It was quite clear that I was being singled out as a pro-life leader, and it was logical to assume that in the judgment of [the abortion facility], I needed to be silenced. Instead of meeting with these people, I completed a 40 Days for Life incident report. 40 Days for Life attorney Matt Britton followed up. He let me know that he was representing my case, and I need not communicate further with the commission. Two weeks ago, I had one subsequent encounter with the person from the commission. I told him any discussion would depend on my attorney. He promptly left and has not been back. I'm thankful to continue to stand for the sanctity of human life without fear—and for our civil right to do so. And for me, standing for what is right this past month was possible because an attorney like Matt Britton has had my back.
