Since 2007, more than 23,000 babies have been saved from abortion thanks to YOUR prayers and outreach at local 40 Days for Life vigils--that we know of!
Given that former abortion workers report that the no-show rate for abortion appointments goes as high as 75% when you show up to pray, the real number is probably much higher.
Lansing, Michigan, 40 Days for Life leader Chris said it's hard to document saved lives because the local abortion facility is located in a strip mall, making direct interaction with abortion clients difficult.
But there's reason to believe that even from a distance, the message is getting through.
"A red car parked directly in front of Planned Parenthood's door with two people inside," Chris said. "I stood where they would be able to see me and my sign, 'Pregnant? Text Us for Help...' They did look over, more than once and sometimes for an extended period."
After about an hour, the car left--without either of the occupants going into the abortion facility.
Did this couple change their minds about abortion? Did Chris's sign make the difference?
"We, most likely, will never know for sure," Chris said. "All I know is they were parked directly in front of Planned Parenthood for an entire hour or more and then drove away."
Nobody sits in a car for an hour contemplating whether to go through with their dry-cleaning or their fast-food order, so it seems pretty likely that God used Chris and his team to save a life that day...
...and even if we'll never be able to count that little girl or boy as one we know has been saved from abortion, that little girl or boy's life is every bit as precious as the saved babies we can count!
There are just ten days left in the Lenten 40 Days for Life campaign. Sign up to pray at your local vigil:
Galloway, New Jersey
Ethel in Galloway knew God had something big in store for her vigil.
"We had a lot of hostile people come out yesterday," she said. "I told my team, 'Something great is around the corner when the enemy attacks like this.'"
Ethel was right. The next morning, she was just getting situated at her vigil when she met an abortion-bound couple. The expectant mother didn't speak English...
...but Ethel was able to find an interpreter--on the spot--to offer the woman a free ultrasound at the pregnancy help center next door. She accepted and chose life!
Catonsville, Maryland
Vigil participants in Catonsville encountered a man who wasn't happy to be at the abortion facility.
"The man did not want the abortion," said Kim, the longtime Catonsville leader. "But his 19-year-old girlfriend did, so he felt like he had to bring her."
Kim has seen this sort of situation before, and she calls it the Adam and Eve syndrome: "The woman makes the wrong choice, and then a man goes along with it against his better judgment," she explained.
It's a sad story--and a reminder that abortion doesn't just harm babies. It damages relationships too.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.
--Psalm 139:16
Gracious God, help us to appreciate the wonder and beauty of Your creation. Help us proclaim on behalf of every one of our fellow human beings, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made." May the knowledge that we are intimately known by You shape our lives and actions.
