When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, abortion businesses fled pro-life states for New Mexico.
The state has no restrictions on abortion, so abortion businesses setting up shop near the Texas border can prey on babies not only from New Mexico but also from the Lone Star State, Oklahoma, and beyond.
But the abortion industry's plan is short-sighted. Southern New Mexico is home to some of the world's most prolific 40 Days for Life campaigns, run by Mark Cavaliere and his Southwest Coalition for Life.
Mark and his team have already helped close THREE abortion facilities...and they're aiming for more.
Since launching his first 40 Days for Life campaign a decade ago, Mark has built a movement across the Southwest--including a network of comprehensive pregnancy centers, a mobile ultrasound unit, and more.
And he's constantly looking for ways to become even more effective at saving babies and moms from abortion.
Recently, 40 Days for Life campaign director Steve Karlen visited Mark's vigils in Santa Teresa and Las Cruces to rally volunteers for this spring's campaign. Here's Steve's report from the road.
Santa Teresa, New Mexico
The abortion center in Las Cruces is strategically located less than a half-mile away from the Texas border.
40 Days for Life participants succeeded in getting the abortion facility booted from the space it previously rented. Unfortunately, the notorious abortionist found a new office--just across the parking lot from his former, now-vacant location.
The good news is that this new location means women have to pass Mark's free ultrasound bus to get to the abortion center.
Jessica from the leadership team shared how one abortion-minded woman didn't just choose life in response to the pro-life presence; she also decided to get involved in pro-life efforts!
Las Cruces, New Mexico
A cold, driving rain didn't deter dozens of hearty pro-lifers from joining the kickoff rally in Las Cruces.
"Quite powerfully, we've often found that it's on days of adverse weather when our presence has the most impact," Mark reflected.
Las Cruces 40 Days for Life participants pray in front of the abortion facility formerly known as Jackson Women's Health Organization.
If that name sounds familiar, it's because Jackson Women's Health Organization was the last abortion facility in Mississippi prior to the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision that reversed Roe. The business bolted for New Mexico after the Supreme Court ruling.
"Abortionists always claim to be 'comprehensive women's health care providers,'" Steve said. "But as soon as abortion is prohibited, they leave town."
And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
--Luke 1:43-44
Lord, help us renew our gratitude for the joy that each child brings into our lives. We ask you to bless, keep, and cause your face to shine upon all unborn children—especially those with disabilities. Give parents supernatural strength and overwhelming support from their community to care for their child with special needs. Amen.
