Many senior citizens look forward to slowing down in retirement...
...but in her 60s, Sarah was just getting started.
It was 1991, and Sarah had just found a receipt in her yard--a receipt for an abortion performed upon a 14-year-old girl. The discovery moved Sarah to begin standing vigil in front of local abortion businesses.
More than three decades later, she still hasn't stopped.
"It was a great day in the Northwest to stand witness at the abortion clinic," wrote Renton, Washington, 40 Days for Life leader Mary. "We had a lovely lady named Sarah standing with us who is 95 years young."
Sarah's commitment is an encouragement to set aside our excuses for not going out to pray for an end to abortion.
"She has been an inspiration to all those who know her...following clinics and helping shut them down," Mary added.

Modena, Italy
Renton is far from the only city in which seniors are sacrificing to save the lives of their youngest brothers and sisters.
At 80 years old, Loretta is a regular participant in Modena's 40 Days for Life vigil--as well as a volunteer for a local pregnancy help center.
"Yesterday she was in the rain praying quietly for two hours," wrote the campaign leadership team.
Green Bay, Wisconsin
Gary often saw folks praying in front of a Green Bay strip mall, so one day he stopped to talk with them.
One of the prayer warriors explained what 40 Days for Life is and invited him to join the campaign. The 81-year-old widower accepted the invitation and headed to the vigil right after church one morning.
"Now that I know what this is, I don't understand why everyone isn't out here!" he said.
While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.”

Jesus, you have given us good pastors to lead your faithful. We thank you for their guidance and service, and we ask you to give them renewed strength. Help them to follow you with steadfast devotion. Guide their every action and give them the words to say to bring many people back to you. Amen.
