The 40 Days for Life campaigns in Croatia must be making an impact ? there have been several hostile media reports lately.

When one of the Croatian teams put a note on their Facebook page asking for prayer for a young woman who was contemplating abortion, pro-abortion forces went on the attack, suggesting that confidential patient information had somehow been improperly obtained from the local hospital.

Of course, that was not the case at all. But the prayer request was greeted with accusations that it was a form of psychological abuse and that the vigil organizers should be ashamed.

Another Croatian publication showed a photo of 40 Days for Life CEO David Bereit, labeling him as the ?religious fanatic? behind the prayer vigils in front of hospitals that perform abortions.

Others are calling the prayer vigils ?protests in front of hospitals that disturb patients,? which should therefore be banned.

The media reports did relate a bit of history -- that Croatia was part of the former Yugoslavia, which in 1978 legalized abortion through the tenth week of pregnancy. Croatia inherited this law unchanged when it became a separate nation.
