The impact of 40 Days for Life can spread in ways that can be unexpected. That message was brought home recently to Agnes, the local leader in Burlington.
She met a man at church recently who had first been introduced to her a number of years ago, during a 40 Days for Life campaign when the vigil location was next to a fire station.
The man told her that he had been a firefighter, and often prayed privately along with the vigil participants. He actually attended the vigil once in uniform, as well as other times when he was off duty.
Agnes asked if he would be taking part this time, but he said he had retired from the fire department as was very busy with studies as he was discerning a possible vocation to the priesthood.
That made Agnes recall that two seminarians and one recently-ordained priest had also prayed at 40 Days for Life vigils.
?Although it may not have been a motivating factor in their decisions,? she said, ?it made me wonder how many young men have chosen to become priests or ministers after having participated in 40 Days for Life.?
This was happening in what she called one of the least religious states in the country. ?What a wonderful outcome for 40 Days for Life!?
