Citizens' rights are very much on the minds of 40 Days for Life participants in La Paz, where the campaign is taking place for the third time.
Abortion is, for the most part, illegal in Bolivia, though there are three situations in which abortions may be obtained. But there is legislation pending that would permit abortions in five additional circumstances.
The legislative assembly's lower house has approved the measure. It has not yet been taken up by the senate, but the 40 Days for Life leaders are concerned that it might become law.
As for the campaign itself, a small but committed group of volunteers pray in front of a Marie Stopes office. This facility's staff claims that abortions do not take place there.
