David Bereit says farewell

The man who has been my friend and colleague for many years, David Bereit, is stepping aside from his role as CEO of 40 Days for Life.

David and his family have made many sacrifices for 40 Days for Life, especially when we were in the early days of seeing God spread this campaign. He has been praying and discerning this decision for a while … and we’ll be excited to see how God will use him in his next project.

Please watch the short video above from David and me.

Here are some thoughts David shared about his years with 40 Days for Life … and the future:

Serving 40 Days for Life has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. With God’s help, I invested my best efforts into this ministry over the last decade. Now, I’m excited to see the new heights it will achieve under Shawn’s leadership.

40 Days for Life has a wonderful board, committed staff, and dedicated local leaders around the globe who will ensure the continued growth and ongoing success of its mission.

For the last year and a half, I’ve been feeling God stirring my heart to take on new challenges and launch a brand new project. My wife, Margaret, and I are excited to now spend a brief season praying, planning, and making preparations to launch this new endeavor, which will be announced soon at DavidBereit.com.

Though my season on staff has come to a joy-filled end, I love 40 Days for Life and will continue to pray for, and participate in, 40 Days for Life campaigns and the pro-life movement.

Please join me in thanking David for his leadership and friendship … and please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Meanwhile, God continues to grow 40 Days for Life and applications to lead campaigns next spring are pouring in — including a first-time campaign in Rome!

Over the next few weeks, we will continue to send out materials to help you discern your role in ending abortion where you live.

So sad to hear you’re leaving, David. I met you at the Falls Church, VA vigil this past campaign, and you were so kind and welcoming. All the best to wherever God leads you and your wife…Also, congrats to Shawn. I’m looking forward to this upcoming campaign. With so many pro-life leaders in power in the US right now, it’s a really exciting time.

I’ve had the privilege of hearing David speak in person several times and felt motivated to do more each time. He is truly on fire for God and the unborn and I look forward to seeing what God has in store for him.

God Bless you David, in your new endeavor. You visited our campaign in Allentown PA in 2007 and were an inspiration to all who participated that day. Your children were young and the trip to all the cities was not easy on you, your wife and family. But look what you accomplished with your steadfast commitment. I’m proud to have met your family and wish you a deserved rest and godspeed.

As we begin this spring campaign of 40 DFL, I fondly recall all that David has done for this vital ministry…I had the privilege of listening to him speak in Philadelphia the week of our Holy Father’s visit, and blessed even more when he gave me a ride back to my sister’s home! That generosity of heart came through in Shawn, as well, this past January when we met outside P.P. in D.C. I am now feeling called to reach more hearts and souls about the truth: thanks to all involved with this apostolate. Let’s continue to do His work… 🙂
