Some might suggest this email is not required from a pro-life organization such as 40 Days for Life.

As a husband, father of seven, a Catholic, and one who has stood alongside many Protestant, Evangelical, and Catholic prayer warriors on the sidewalk, I think it is required. We cannot stand silent.

40 Days for Life vigils are the last line of defense for babies who are minutes away from being ripped apart and killed through abortion. Simply put, we defend children in the face of evil.

The recent scandals within the Catholic Church have shown priests and bishops, once again, abusing children and covering it up. It is my hope and prayer that the guilty clergy members who did these horrific evils repent and spend the rest of their lives in prison. The idea of them living a life of solitude and prayer is ludicrous. Bona fide accusations should lead to prosecution, conviction, and incarceration.

The vast majority of Catholic clerics would never harm a child. But leaving the guilty in their midst, unpunished, casts an unjust shadow over all.

Our anger is voiced first and foremost on behalf of the innocent victims. But the ripple effect of these crimes extends across the Body of Christ and the pro-life movement.

The faithful priests, bishops, and even cardinals you see at the March for Life, pregnancy center banquets, and 40 Days for Life vigils find themselves caught in the crossfire. And many of the Protestant and Evangelical Christians who stand in the gap defending life are equally embarrassed and outraged.

Some will use this as an excuse to lose faith. That only increases the damages of these sins. Instead, it is appropriate to be angry, call for real action, and repent for all the sins against children--especially sins committed by those who are entrusted to defend the flock.

I have been blessed with many holy priests and bishops in my life, without whose example I would not be in the pro-life movement. They join us in anger and outrage.

Christians set the standard because we defend life. Life is not only biological, but sacred. If just one evil priest or bishop hurts a child, it is too many.

In just over a month, we'll embark on the largest 40 Days for Life campaign ever. There will be hundreds of thousands of Catholics, Evangelicals, and Protestants defending life and offering hope to those who feel they have no other option. There is so much momentum in the pro-life movement right now, and the impact of your witness on the front lines is at an all-time high.

This witness is not possible simply because times are good or bad within the Catholic Church or any other denomination. It is possible because of your faith in Christ. He is the source of our prayers, fortitude, sacrifice, and love. He can and will heal our land.

In the coming weeks we have a lot going on, and -- believe me -- this email was not in my August plans. We are gearing up to release a new book, host live events, do national media interviews, and kick off the largest campaign ever in 415 cities in 26 countries.

As we move forward into a very busy season after learning of these horrific scandals, let me say thank you for defending life. Some of you have been doing this longer than I've been alive, and it is an honor to serve alongside you.

Please use the darkness in our world to motivate you to trust our Lord's victory over sin and death and heal our broken culture. It is in the darkness that His light shines the brightest.

Do not despair ? that is the tool of the evil one. Instead, please join me in praying and fasting to end abortion and all evil toward children.

Aborto y la Iglesia Cat?lica

Como esposo, padre de siete hijos, cat?lico y uno m?s que ha estado junto a muchos guerreros de oraci?n en la calle, sin importar su credo, si lo creo necesario y no podemos permanecer en silencio.

Las vigilias de 40 D?as por la Vida son la ?ltima l?nea de defensa para beb?s que est?n a minutos de ser destrozados y asesinados a causa del aborto. En pocas palabras, defendemos a los ni?os frente al mal.

Los esc?ndalos recientes dentro de la Iglesia Cat?lica han mostrado a los sacerdotes y obispos, una vez m?s, abusando de los ni?os o encubriendo este crimen. En mi oraci?n, espero que los miembros del clero culpables que cometieron estos horribles males se arrepientan y pasen el resto de sus vidas en prisi?n. La idea de que vivan una vida de soledad y oraci?n es insuficiente. Las acusaciones verdaderas deber?an llevar al enjuiciamiento, condena y encarcelamiento.

Es cierto que la gran mayor?a de los cl?rigos cat?licos nunca da?ar?an a un ni?o, pero dejar a los culpables en medio de ellos, sin castigo, arroja una sombra injusta sobre todos.

Nuestra ira se expresa ante todo en nombre de las v?ctimas inocentes, pero el efecto domino de estos cr?menes se extiende a trav?s del Cuerpo de Cristo y afecta al movimiento provida.
