We're often asked how we confirm saved babies at 40 Days for Life vigils.
The answer is simple: The moms and dads tell the on-site prayer warriors they decided not to go through with the abortion--usually in conversation or with an affirming gesture.
But vigil participants in Iowa City, Iowa, learned that they had saved a baby through a gift!
"Tom arrived early at the vigil site and discovered roses in a decorative glass dish with a note that read, 'She chose life!'" wrote Sheryl, the local campaign leader.
Who might have left this thoughtful gift?
Perhaps the child's father? Perhaps a grandmother relieved that her grandchild has been spared? Only God and the gift-giver know, but someone has a powerful story to tell!
"In a prayer of thanksgiving for this mother choosing life, we placed the roses at the memorial for born and unborn children at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City," Sheryl added.

St. Paul, Minnesota
Mary and Pat handed a boxed fetal model set and pro-life literature to an abortion-bound couple at the Planned Parenthood mega-facility in the Twin Cities--but the pair entered the abortion facility anyway.
"About 40 minutes later, the same couple came out," Mary said. Pat recalled that "the father was just gleaming," while the young mother said she changed her mind about abortion thanks to the literature she received!
Having lost the abortion sale, a Planned Parenthood escort told the proud parents to move along, so Mary and Pat met them in a nearby parking lot to offer additional help.
"The only time I've...had a confirmed save was during 40 Days for Life," Mary said.
Yopal, Colombia
An expectant mother in Colombia tested positive for HIV, so her doctors pressured her to have an abortion.
However, the young woman's aunts contacted 40 Days for Life to ask for help. The ensuing conversation led the woman to choose life for her baby!
Jos, Nigeria
Longtime Jos leader Maureen split her team into five groups and went out into the community to do outreach.
One of those groups encountered an abortion-minded pregnant teen--and empowered her to keep her baby!
"She has been registered in a hospital for antenatal services," Maureen said. "We are happy that our prayers and outreaches are yielding good results. People support the messages we are sending out, and we are grateful to God."
