The Charlie Gard case has taken the temperature on our view of human life.
It has revealed how disconnected, cold, and flat out wrong the courts, hospital, and media in England are concerning this case.
American pro-life groups have been welcomed by the English people ... and highly criticized by the elitist British media who seem completely detached from their fellow citizens.
After a British judge gave Charlie's parents 48 hours to "prove to the court that he should be allowed to live," they did just that.
The judge will now allow an American doctor to visit London to better assess Charlie's condition. His testimony yesterday spoke to science and hope.
There are no guarantees, but this appears to be a positive step. So please keep praying!
When two 40 Days for Life board members and I, who were in London for a conference with our local campaign leaders, decided to speak out in defense of Baby Charlie -- the gravely ill 11-month-old child who is at the center of all these hearings and debates -- we did so because it was the right thing to do.
But oh, how the British media have responded ... to US! They're attacking 40 Days for Life and other groups that have come to support Charlie's parents as they fight for his life.
An article about Baby Charlie in the Times of London took off on a side track to lob accusations at 40 Days for Life volunteers, alleging that they:
- Engage in "catcalling" at women entering abortion facilities
- Follow cars and take registration numbers
- Receive "funds from their American conterparts"
All of this is wrong and, of course, totally unrelated to the British media's support for ending Charlie's life and not allowing him to come to the United States for treatment.
But it is not unexpected. The media have been misrepresenting 40 Days for Life consistently since 2010, when Robert Colquhoun, our international campaign director, brought our first vigil to England's capital.
Yes, 40 Days for Life was different. There was no tradition of public prayer outside abortion facilities in the United Kingdom ... so this approach was declared "too American" and beneath British civility.
The media -- and their friends in the abortion business -- just want 40 Days for Life to just "go home." They don't understand the idea of standing up for and defending the God-given life and dignity of the child in the womb ... and children like Charlie Gard.

Meanwhile, Charlie's story still has chapters yet to unfold -- and more court hearings are likely as an innocent little boy's life hangs in the balance.
